Energy Code Compliance and Energy Modeling

COMcheck, REScheck, ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC compliance, energy models and commissioning documentation for permits.

Energy code paperwork is where many permits stall. The forms must match the drawings, the lighting controls must match the plans, and the equipment efficiencies must match the schedules. Because we produce the mechanical and electrical drawings in-house, our compliance documents agree with them the first time.

What we provide

  • Commercial compliance: COMcheck envelope, mechanical and lighting reports, or ASHRAE 90.1 compliance forms, for new construction, additions and alterations.
  • Residential compliance: REScheck and ACCA Manual J, S and D reports for one- and two-family dwellings and low-rise multifamily.
  • Performance path and modeling: energy models for projects that trade off envelope, lighting and mechanical performance, or that pursue utility incentives.
  • Commissioning documentation: the commissioning plan and requirements the IECC asks for on larger mechanical and lighting systems.

Jurisdictions

We take projects nationwide, hold licenses in most states and Washington, DC, and track the energy code edition in force in each, including the New York State and New York City energy codes and the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code energy subcode.

Frequently asked questions

Which energy code applies to my project?

The edition your state or city has adopted at the time of permit application, with any local amendments. We confirm it with the jurisdiction before we start so the forms match what the examiner enforces.

Can you prepare COMcheck from another engineer's drawings?

Yes. We review the drawings, request any missing data, run the reports and issue them under our seal where required, or as supporting documentation for the engineer of record.

When does a project need an energy model instead of COMcheck?

When the design cannot meet the prescriptive requirements, when the owner is pursuing a performance-path tradeoff, or when a certification or incentive program asks for one.

Have a project in design or permitting?

Send us the drawings you have, even if they are early. We reply within one business day with scope, fee and schedule.
